They were then placed right sides together with the outer fabric and sewn together<br />

Leave the arm holes free then you can flip the whole thing the right way around. I then understitched as much as I could to stop the lining from rolling out and being visible from the front. Under stitching is always worth the effort to make your garment look neat and we'll made! I overlooked the arm holes to prevent fraying whilst I hand stitched the sleeve linings.<br />

I think I would have found attaching the sleeves really difficult if I didn't have the dress form. If you don't have one, I'd advise hanging the jacket on a hanger for this bit. It'll ensure you aren't attaching the lining shorter than the outer fabric as the sleeve won't hang well if you do.<br />

I've never made one before but there's a gap in my wardrobe for a light jacket this spring<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I chose image D and was going to also go for the same colour fabric until I remembered how much I love the colour mustard.....and tweed.... A quick eBay search and I found the perfect colour combo. It's a bit louder than my usual style but, let's be brave...</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Due to eating too many pies the largest size in this pattern was a little tight in me 🙄 so I spent some time making a the front and back panels just a couple of cms bigger. Ideally I wanted to be able to wear the blazer over my hoody. I made the resized pattern out of cotton so i could easily reuse it.</div>

So far so easy. I moved onto the collar next. The under collar was cut on the bias and has stretched quite a lot. I managed to manipulate it back to the size and shape of the paper pattern so I could add the fusible interfacing but in hindsight I should have left it attached to the paper pattern to make this process a bit quicker.</div>

It's been a while since i last posted because the wedding date crept up on me and i decided to make some pretty last minute changes to the dress which kept me rather occupied!<br />
<br />
So the stage i was up to when i last posted was the corset. I made the loops first of all and then attached them to a strip of fabric. I sewed over them several times as i was worried that when pulled tight i might break a stitch here and there. By the time i was finished they were going nowhere!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNZNIHRwd9QYAPhLNv_DAUSVg48Iy6j6pxuCqRbFfiJzxq9cBOPd5UoZM3nHy8WU8VM832jaa_uyD9FEbDYFifxHubKtheQ2ldyjW4AaKh65euvYK-E6VkD9NOBXmNykgy_EMjHyOfpzXx/s1600/IMG_20180319_125443074.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNZNIHRwd9QYAPhLNv_DAUSVg48Iy6j6pxuCqRbFfiJzxq9cBOPd5UoZM3nHy8WU8VM832jaa_uyD9FEbDYFifxHubKtheQ2ldyjW4AaKh65euvYK-E6VkD9NOBXmNykgy_EMjHyOfpzXx/s320/IMG_20180319_125443074.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I sewed the loop strip to the seam allowance of the corset so i didn't have any stitches visible on the outside:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiv1Jpchm7iGNJ4b3hJMpxBsPGCAGzbVa6wQH4wZEJQkHHaxVWIIfFmG4G3qW2SCyQ21sEI6LoyXzH2c2YPwuPFWIFYJLGGuNTBS_7mopEhlsm2-_06fASAO3W3uIaIRSvNpjNhEQH0wayf/s1600/IMG_20180319_151653664.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiv1Jpchm7iGNJ4b3hJMpxBsPGCAGzbVa6wQH4wZEJQkHHaxVWIIfFmG4G3qW2SCyQ21sEI6LoyXzH2c2YPwuPFWIFYJLGGuNTBS_7mopEhlsm2-_06fASAO3W3uIaIRSvNpjNhEQH0wayf/s320/IMG_20180319_151653664.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Next i moved on to the the straps and also added a modesty panel which i inserted boning into so it wouldn't sag<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxmyHu1_fSHsb1rR_6Jwb-pykYuyGNvcROW4xNVRnyiuAUgNPHsB8NNk9tnxOHmRYMlyuWr1TOaUqIeBVUngbS_tQbZNs-8QpEV-TZLpXvyOxnbloF0XN4hVBrPEIExhdvmKyCg54YYH2W/s1600/IMG_20180322_214516216.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxmyHu1_fSHsb1rR_6Jwb-pykYuyGNvcROW4xNVRnyiuAUgNPHsB8NNk9tnxOHmRYMlyuWr1TOaUqIeBVUngbS_tQbZNs-8QpEV-TZLpXvyOxnbloF0XN4hVBrPEIExhdvmKyCg54YYH2W/s320/IMG_20180322_214516216.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
Now the satin part of the dress was finished i turned my attentions back to the lace. Initially, the lace bolero was a separate piece to the dress but i started having second thoughts about this just a few weeks before the wedding. I wanted the dress to be fitted at my waist and the bolero hung loose but i just couldn't come up with a way of making it more fitted other than taking a pair of scissors to it.... So that's what i did. I chopped quite a bit off the bottom of the bolero and then stated to attach it to the bodice of the dress<br />

I also made a bow to go around the waist for a bit of extra drama at the back :) and because i felt i'd finished with some time to spare i bought a load of chiffon and made an over skirt. Given more time i think it would have got bigger and bigger!! I'm glad for deadlines....<br />

I chose some ivory satin from Truro fabrics after ordering lots of different samples through the post. I chose this particular fabric because it had the structure I was after and the colour together with the shine was like ice cream. Delicious 😋<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvzGMdusQoBuL81uUUrMkvT-FYhgGzgD_TYvS58KCZEr90NRRDdUOhbBdIBPsMp3CyPom6qH9uBWQByZP3e8iyZkc77FWn7OAZu6QI6WjPYdqBXohU1vjIRC3cdUaMdMxpTf0AL7UbQIeb/s1600/IMG_20180310_102536250.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvzGMdusQoBuL81uUUrMkvT-FYhgGzgD_TYvS58KCZEr90NRRDdUOhbBdIBPsMp3CyPom6qH9uBWQByZP3e8iyZkc77FWn7OAZu6QI6WjPYdqBXohU1vjIRC3cdUaMdMxpTf0AL7UbQIeb/s320/IMG_20180310_102536250.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I made the corset up in three fabrics. The satin for the front, an interlining of cotton on to which I attached the boning and then a lining fabric.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPxQSjTUKRiXfowJn5AGDUP01ZFBCFCZ40auIUb3jPYPpNKbog0ThKStPQRXSo_vr_4ODBLRIguBPQs4NNbDV2OH35cDvC1f_VWTPxoIJjsQwLtceySMvZmexEs6uxCh3DG8IRNRrejnlZ/s1600/IMG_20180311_215044824.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPxQSjTUKRiXfowJn5AGDUP01ZFBCFCZ40auIUb3jPYPpNKbog0ThKStPQRXSo_vr_4ODBLRIguBPQs4NNbDV2OH35cDvC1f_VWTPxoIJjsQwLtceySMvZmexEs6uxCh3DG8IRNRrejnlZ/s320/IMG_20180311_215044824.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1P8hQDsi3zQ7JBW2E7OL5a7UOfmYjK5cNT2SOm09BoA9IOtGJ5YCfb-laDqPmIMUgVpX-7OQCrDeCAYQtRLTYTjizLJbCfrob8fUMLIhYOm-tQK6nQhIVJV0cRjefdW5hNeWEchm6PdC-/s1600/IMG_20180311_221657016.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1P8hQDsi3zQ7JBW2E7OL5a7UOfmYjK5cNT2SOm09BoA9IOtGJ5YCfb-laDqPmIMUgVpX-7OQCrDeCAYQtRLTYTjizLJbCfrob8fUMLIhYOm-tQK6nQhIVJV0cRjefdW5hNeWEchm6PdC-/s320/IMG_20180311_221657016.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
I then used some more lining fabric to make a petticoat. I didn't do this the full length that intended on making on making the outer skirt because I thought it'd get wrapped up in my legs once I took my hoop off!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyQs_TXo5qSmzhfm7AaIyFvD-Tn86l7auP6CGS5jfgKMrlj3oBtw0_VH7gnqCmKFMi4eO8tI56C4-DsG2MpgWlNpzMg4TxmiWJzBspQyW1hsygQgR14sUC9q9tKe-uSddHHfgGv9g1XyQP/s1600/IMG_20180316_152924826.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyQs_TXo5qSmzhfm7AaIyFvD-Tn86l7auP6CGS5jfgKMrlj3oBtw0_VH7gnqCmKFMi4eO8tI56C4-DsG2MpgWlNpzMg4TxmiWJzBspQyW1hsygQgR14sUC9q9tKe-uSddHHfgGv9g1XyQP/s320/IMG_20180316_152924826.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
I next draped the satin around the bottom of the corset with my hoop beneath it so I knew it would fit around it. I tried to match the pleats up with the seam lines of the bodice. I then sewed the two layers of the skirt to the top two layers of the bodice. I left the bodice lining free so I could hand sew this down later and encase all the raw edges.<br />

The next step for the corset will be the all important back. This is something I've not done before so I've been researching and planning it out in my hair before I attempt it....Nathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05410862558639508879noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9103246362395570162.post-41620229227666809962018-03-18T21:39:00.001+00:002018-03-18T21:39:54.936+00:00Making my wedding dress: part threeStill practicing techniques I finished of my mocha corset and skirt... I made some bias binding to neaten the top of the corset and addef a horsehair braid to the hem to add some shape and structure:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBVNyLN-cozDA9UsHHTYuOhPVwfLSTEtJ2H9nWDSZvGoVP_oR7VRndMD97q0UFS2FEsegB7gCp8FIs62LnJ3amYwYhEgik18JXAAncB72Y31eB776J8mYRa8Z6h-me1QWzgGy6-bC2-8He/s1600/IMG_20180106_170124063.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBVNyLN-cozDA9UsHHTYuOhPVwfLSTEtJ2H9nWDSZvGoVP_oR7VRndMD97q0UFS2FEsegB7gCp8FIs62LnJ3amYwYhEgik18JXAAncB72Y31eB776J8mYRa8Z6h-me1QWzgGy6-bC2-8He/s320/IMG_20180106_170124063.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Once it was finished I didn't think I'd get the chance to wear it anytime soon but luckily for me I was invited to a posh do last minute and had the perfect outfit 😁 </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Since then... We've booked a venue and it's game on! I won't be waiting around to start making my dress tho, not now I have some practice under my belt. I've always been a fan of lace and decided I'd make a top out of tulle which I could attach lace to so I set to work on that next. I already had a pattern of drafted that I knew I could use as a template.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_mUO5IMYK5OOg8f-QuFnouRAS1OSQA7h6EfHkYYc4LDyRypYO9DRd-BNsEh7x_djPi1hrTreDXIjxuibI_vAitDnTxEfZQa5Hwx8QhEpSNGXFeIwmEY_hlPbsGCh2B6vUm-9VP0yasdRm/s1600/IMG_20180203_133509436.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_mUO5IMYK5OOg8f-QuFnouRAS1OSQA7h6EfHkYYc4LDyRypYO9DRd-BNsEh7x_djPi1hrTreDXIjxuibI_vAitDnTxEfZQa5Hwx8QhEpSNGXFeIwmEY_hlPbsGCh2B6vUm-9VP0yasdRm/s320/IMG_20180203_133509436.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I searched for a while to find the lace I wanted to use and finally settled on a lace from Minerva craft. It had a good repeating pattern I thought I'd be able to cut and place well. I started by covering the bodice and then embellished the sleeves.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The lace top is still open at the back I considered whether I could attach it to the dress but it's just too delicate, I don't want it to come under any tension. I can't think of a way to secure it in yet but I'm working on it. Maybe a broach, maybe little pearl buttons... Anywho, with this bit 90% done its time to start the dress itself...</div>

A corset of course! Maybe I could have drafted a corset from scratch? I dunno, what I do know is one of my trusty sewing bee books already has a corset pattern I can use!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjec7S0tU0yFCDQRIq0emwqhlMcWGnq0rBPH0UXWWHgMmN9QWYen6C-Bx10jpELeQgA0SnlVAuWky022mIoQrVKLQcv_rjfWLooAHlBg0kIUGNAFnqquNxmhktgJRrDkJDS2sTwHxnbqiTC/s1600/IMG_20171130_223832346.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjec7S0tU0yFCDQRIq0emwqhlMcWGnq0rBPH0UXWWHgMmN9QWYen6C-Bx10jpELeQgA0SnlVAuWky022mIoQrVKLQcv_rjfWLooAHlBg0kIUGNAFnqquNxmhktgJRrDkJDS2sTwHxnbqiTC/s320/IMG_20171130_223832346.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
I made the corset up in some muslin first with the plan of making alterations to it if necessary and then using the pieces as my pattern. As it turned out the first attempt fit well so I made it up in some satin.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTVOgNRLLFAyOSVnLW9xvu7xVPNnA2o-pPLzwXnZF8HwgJcSHHckDDn0uEMTsvHfGaZhnot87E79SjKlJ-QhKRPo3vtm90FOTVKKARQuYxH6V9q32Q8WQo26nLPZorWniuamqZw6UsERC2/s1600/IMG_20171229_175515137.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTVOgNRLLFAyOSVnLW9xvu7xVPNnA2o-pPLzwXnZF8HwgJcSHHckDDn0uEMTsvHfGaZhnot87E79SjKlJ-QhKRPo3vtm90FOTVKKARQuYxH6V9q32Q8WQo26nLPZorWniuamqZw6UsERC2/s320/IMG_20171229_175515137.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm awaiting the boning now, channels are all in place ready. Prior to that I think I'll attach the bias binding to the front top edge. Then I'll be able to insert the boning all the way to the top before hand stitching the back of the binding. The original pattern has a lace up back but I prefer to use an invisible zip.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Whilst I'm waiting for bits and bobs in the post I moved onto the skirt. I like the idea of having some big pleats, maybe all the way around or perhaps starting on the hips. I've looked at millions of pics online and big box pleats just catch my eye.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhk-kJ-eZXnJ9RPUEH2a_akYG3Shp-FkDvN72frTrkeHTe-sRyZAe_9f9sd5TNvLGZNhqZ0Sgw2vvuZYr1_hbEl_fcAw-0UxH-szfwxz9h8pgYtTuWfwW3oJ1gUECDOInok1KdW398dZCf2/s1600/IMG_20171230_115937594.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhk-kJ-eZXnJ9RPUEH2a_akYG3Shp-FkDvN72frTrkeHTe-sRyZAe_9f9sd5TNvLGZNhqZ0Sgw2vvuZYr1_hbEl_fcAw-0UxH-szfwxz9h8pgYtTuWfwW3oJ1gUECDOInok1KdW398dZCf2/s320/IMG_20171230_115937594.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
Im going to make my wedding dress floor length. This outfit is purely for trying out some techniques I've never done before. I decided to cut the hem to mid calf left just to take a bit of drama out of it and I may stand a chance of actually wearing it... Somewhere...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_4K2HpTQnOflVMgK5IbNBAiJVeMdSkY5TE5kpyW6hZMlXAUFRgcWxINfLXs0VKa7jy7Qr3AljwOOrTWzfwJD6RI638JXFfzpNRsiyfKsdU3Uv5V8VES6ynda93W8dTzaJqGKGmPVWkvJp/s1600/IMG_20171231_171729221.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_4K2HpTQnOflVMgK5IbNBAiJVeMdSkY5TE5kpyW6hZMlXAUFRgcWxINfLXs0VKa7jy7Qr3AljwOOrTWzfwJD6RI638JXFfzpNRsiyfKsdU3Uv5V8VES6ynda93W8dTzaJqGKGmPVWkvJp/s320/IMG_20171231_171729221.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
I've added a waistband and invisible zip to the skirt, there's some horsehair braid on order to give the hem some structure. This is another thing I've never done before so learning lots with this project. My next posts will cover finishing off the bodice and the skirt hem. The grand finale will be adding some lace to the mix. I have a few more YouTube videos to watch before then though!!!Nathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05410862558639508879noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9103246362395570162.post-32095215556273763242018-01-01T20:02:00.001+00:002018-01-01T20:02:28.274+00:00Making my wedding dress: Part oneSew..... This happened!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvLyufY303BPK8z1QFsncqVBnPdf1x4_CzCU3iGeu_f-28aonjYvvTby8BNpo9JzfVHTcTxw2M33ppJ_vOLJ9GSdyuWZCxAYPyjnX4SN34CBYNTKmiKIhVqt6cc4eyQZt2BBx11iENWEWI/s1600/IMG-20171217-WA0006.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="900" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvLyufY303BPK8z1QFsncqVBnPdf1x4_CzCU3iGeu_f-28aonjYvvTby8BNpo9JzfVHTcTxw2M33ppJ_vOLJ9GSdyuWZCxAYPyjnX4SN34CBYNTKmiKIhVqt6cc4eyQZt2BBx11iENWEWI/s200/IMG-20171217-WA0006.jpeg" width="112" /></a></div>
Obviously my thoughts quickly turned to making a dress!!! I pretty much jumped straight in and starting drafting a bodice using my dress form.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbnCYa4LxqMwzd9ve3kzXhbmHFItkjMD2H_2d4xGFvA5U7sJvd9v6Jw939HTQB9bY1xtGJD2yleiEwh7rMT6jzXKIfHLO5BIfebiHn-yNQM1JOSn6rpo9uvK9axKqd05pVJiJe0mbknbd5/s1600/IMG_20171116_214017553.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbnCYa4LxqMwzd9ve3kzXhbmHFItkjMD2H_2d4xGFvA5U7sJvd9v6Jw939HTQB9bY1xtGJD2yleiEwh7rMT6jzXKIfHLO5BIfebiHn-yNQM1JOSn6rpo9uvK9axKqd05pVJiJe0mbknbd5/s320/IMG_20171116_214017553.jpg" width="240" /> </a></div>
My original idea was a satin bodice which I'd then drape tulle over.<br />

I added some shoulder straps partly for stability but also to have something to anchor the tulle to. I had some mocha coloured satin which matching chiffon knocking about so decided to play around with draping. The way the bodice is connected below the bust requires gathering and I quickly realised this wasn't going to give the sleek under bodice I was after.<br />

I spent many frustrating hours trying different ways of draping the fabric. Having never done this before I really was winging it. I just couldn't get the tension right; the chiffon was either too taught and pulling on the bodice underneath or it was too slack and looking like a baggy mess. In hindsight, chiffon wasn't the best fabric for this style and I was planning of using tulle anyway, with it's sturdier structure I might have achieved what I had in mind... However I got frustrated and decided to start all over again with a different look. We'll, I haven't set a date yet so where's the hurry? 😂</div>

Lots of sewing has been done over the last 12 months. Having a dedicated space has left me brimming with ideas....</div>

I have been using a great book called 'How to use, adapt and design sewing patterns' by Lee Hollahan.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSM1KJWP-e53fj_u1s9MsNdsduVP8st25OTzQgy7btT9qy1Sho5yNntbZI3k0ieDiuDGeXzGvmB89jk6dfMe3LVCXQ2eE34XgfJeMYz9wV3ElT57QHmggPFJzCUhBsQSyt9uKWUEfLJguU/s1600/WP_20160613_028.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSM1KJWP-e53fj_u1s9MsNdsduVP8st25OTzQgy7btT9qy1Sho5yNntbZI3k0ieDiuDGeXzGvmB89jk6dfMe3LVCXQ2eE34XgfJeMYz9wV3ElT57QHmggPFJzCUhBsQSyt9uKWUEfLJguU/s320/WP_20160613_028.jpg" width="260" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The book contains basic pattern blocks for a bodice, sleeves and skirt. Firstly take some measurements of your body so you know what size pattern blocks to cut out. Then, you simply scale them up onto some pattern drafting paper in the correct size for you. Today i have worked on the bodice. I found that the length of the shoulder was going to be too long for me so i adjusting the pattern at this point. Once i was happy with my paper pattern i added 1.5cm seam allowance and drew the design onto some medium weight calico:</div>

Ta da! Now we have a very well fitting bodice :) The paper pattern can now be used as the basis for many different types of tops and dresses that will fit me perfectly every time. The next task is to draft some sleeves....<br />

This is a Nancy Nicholson kit that, once finished, can be framed or turned into a cushion, or whatever you like.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The kit come with a printed cloth with markings showing you where to sew. You also get, your needle, threads and a guide to the different embroidery stitches. I found i had to google some of the stitches to get a clearer idea of how to do them. Here's my progress so far...</div>

Still undecided what to do with it when it's finished, leaning towards framing it to protect it from cats....Nathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05410862558639508879noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9103246362395570162.post-42548881263852636602016-01-03T20:39:00.001+00:002016-01-03T20:39:22.335+00:00Patchwork duvet coverThe only patchwork i have done was a hand made quilted blanket using the Victorian paper piecing method. It was a very long project and very time consuming but I'm tempted to do it again, the final results were very pleasing. In the meantime i thought a patchwork duvet cover made using my sewing machine would be a much speedier option. It was indeed faster, however very repetitive and boring. I hope i don't forget that and embark on another patch work machine project....<br />
<br />
The duvet cover was to match my green bedroom so the first task took many weeks: finding the right fabric.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpzZGW5DWEmyxOUn4A99i4GQkwZoe8WxPXKTrwBJwPg0p-K_OYMYFQWvvu39dObwo4mFApmDevabBD1dHI2pzLeqwdBsEPZGg3f7-OkXx_0q3pnt0deZ5FWWhlx8gpM-67ee6Ky2gkTWnn/s1600/WP_20151111_002.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpzZGW5DWEmyxOUn4A99i4GQkwZoe8WxPXKTrwBJwPg0p-K_OYMYFQWvvu39dObwo4mFApmDevabBD1dHI2pzLeqwdBsEPZGg3f7-OkXx_0q3pnt0deZ5FWWhlx8gpM-67ee6Ky2gkTWnn/s320/WP_20151111_002.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I decided to try a basic chevron design thinking i'll start with something easy and advance to a more technical design for my next project (won't be doing that in a hurry). My chevrons were compiled of triangles which i cut out using a rotary cutter. Firstly i cut some plain cream coloured squares (25x25cm) and the same again in my patterned fabric then overlocked them right sides together.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRKmr_YY2x-Y4YPgYNwg4jgO_f-j5m6v8O5klRE_OYIFcGD339oqBDPpFa8LVANBV2txx9I95tpIweJdmZYsEbNij8woarzyjRixy00EVmpho8EOred15xMXb9MTz5UPnKkKu4exkSFxMP/s1600/WP_20151115_001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRKmr_YY2x-Y4YPgYNwg4jgO_f-j5m6v8O5klRE_OYIFcGD339oqBDPpFa8LVANBV2txx9I95tpIweJdmZYsEbNij8woarzyjRixy00EVmpho8EOred15xMXb9MTz5UPnKkKu4exkSFxMP/s320/WP_20151115_001.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<br />
I then cut through the two fabrics diagonally to get four squares; half plain half patterned.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilpAwICqur_46z1bfHw71d930nzNI85UWAXFceD0a-o_i2j8lixkQFtTJXigMXJKAqwHw7drwipGAQ39XH_PLSdOnUHD4ADXHKNsScq2ox0tRBconfZrZcZVvOM68ziEc0b7z4WOgK7O1j/s1600/WP_20151115_004.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilpAwICqur_46z1bfHw71d930nzNI85UWAXFceD0a-o_i2j8lixkQFtTJXigMXJKAqwHw7drwipGAQ39XH_PLSdOnUHD4ADXHKNsScq2ox0tRBconfZrZcZVvOM68ziEc0b7z4WOgK7O1j/s320/WP_20151115_004.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
Then i lined up the colours to make a chevron.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3W1ZvlOPja1YkIOVq881aD2_sHonTk4MGT-BpxbOyyuARzQpzlKnzZd__-rI-px9zN3N2J4hjI7RgyfJ0l_XUeX2GvLBGH2WzYUA0IQp1clGfSSCsc4rRoBUXDOEUSSRxr-agTeRO8vEm/s1600/WP_20151115_017.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3W1ZvlOPja1YkIOVq881aD2_sHonTk4MGT-BpxbOyyuARzQpzlKnzZd__-rI-px9zN3N2J4hjI7RgyfJ0l_XUeX2GvLBGH2WzYUA0IQp1clGfSSCsc4rRoBUXDOEUSSRxr-agTeRO8vEm/s320/WP_20151115_017.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
I made up eight rows which gave me a finished piece measuring two metres by two metres. I took the cream fabric from a pre-made duvet cover and i kept the back half to add to my new chevron front. I also had the strip of poppers to re-use!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

With the fabric right sides together I first sewed the side seams together. I then followed the confusing instructions on how to incorporate the lining into the corners of the coat whilst leaving a border of coat fabric around it...<br />
<br />
<br />
Here's some close up shots of this bit, the instructions on the pattern were pretty useless so anyone wanting to make this coat might find colour photos useful!<br />

<br />
Next you turn the coat inside out again to sew up the bottom seam a couple of cms up from the bottom. You also want to leave the lining a bit longer than your coat to allow for movement. The last thing you want is for all your seams to pop open the first time you bend over!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFFWxO6-MLoesJaxD1SH3IG9DDB3SCTAUrgN5Ggxat4lwRomxcxyflUY7b6GOjUzb1-yu_YuIhTj5DQKv0absmFu3fsWHXMAq0a4mxtL4-87DBpr9OqzNjw-rm_PHIL4yAG-F1qbpoWA9t/s1600/WP_20151013_002.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFFWxO6-MLoesJaxD1SH3IG9DDB3SCTAUrgN5Ggxat4lwRomxcxyflUY7b6GOjUzb1-yu_YuIhTj5DQKv0absmFu3fsWHXMAq0a4mxtL4-87DBpr9OqzNjw-rm_PHIL4yAG-F1qbpoWA9t/s320/WP_20151013_002.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>

<br />
Ta da! Side and bottom seams done :) I attached the bottoms of the sleeves together and then sewed some discrete stitches by hand to anchor the tops of the sleeve lining to the coat so it wasn't all sitting loose.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCAuunzQYLHngWHUXlw35GHDI9G_rP_piR_3nM8MFJaxDgyviGnllrMhPKDMTR0ONVzoumDrX7nHQvT26zeQZnc61LrHK-pBV1mblCwldfIO8lQloIwmXPn7Rfaw4f3Eb_a0En2gG0t5wo/s1600/WP_20151013_004.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCAuunzQYLHngWHUXlw35GHDI9G_rP_piR_3nM8MFJaxDgyviGnllrMhPKDMTR0ONVzoumDrX7nHQvT26zeQZnc61LrHK-pBV1mblCwldfIO8lQloIwmXPn7Rfaw4f3Eb_a0En2gG0t5wo/s320/WP_20151013_004.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>

<br />
I decided against doing the caped hood which, ironically, was the feature that drew me to this pattern in the first place. The main reason was the hood wouldn't have been functional at all and i like a hood so i don't have to carry a brolly! Also, i like the ruffles on my sleeve seams and didn't want this detail hid beneath a cape. So, i drew around a hood off another coat and made one from the wool and one from the lining. I made the lining version slightly smaller so that the wool would roll around into the inside and make a border preventing the lining from poking out.<br />

Here's my little border created by cutting the lining a bit smaller. I top stitched all the edges on the coat to make it look a little bit more professional.<br />

I used the machine to attach the wool part of the hood to the coat then sewed the lining up by hand, adding a useful little hook.<br />

I found my fabric in Barry's Fabric store in Digbeth. It's mainly grey with threads of blue and green woven through so i decided to buy green anti-static lining to compliment it.</div>

<br />
The coat is made up of two front panels and two side front panels. Two side back panels and a back panel. Then you have the sleeves and the hood. Everything but the hood needs to also be cut out of the lining. My wool coat fabric was 150cm wide and i bought 4 metres which is more than enough.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
The front edge of the front two panels are folded over where the pattern indicates and the zip is attached face down, it will be concealed by the folded edges when the coat is zipped up.<br />

<br />
This pic is upside down and i can't figure out how to flip it.... The pockets are half wool and half lining. I initially put them on back to front and had to do a lot of unpicking!! You need the lining half to be attached to the front panel and the wool part to the side front panel. That way if the pocket gapes open you'll only see the wool fabric and the pockets will remain pretty invisible in the princess seam line.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Here's the pocket, wrong way around but right way up, sewed into the seam... I have also ironed on fusible interfacing to the back of the wool for a bit of insulation.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

From the outside the pocket is hardly noticeable.<br />

<br />
I read quite a few reviews on this pattern that said the hips come out really wide. I found exactly the same thing so at this stage i started to take a few of the seams in then once i was happy i overlocked it all up. I love the inside of an overlocked garment :D<br />
<br />

<br />
Next job was to attach the sleeves. As other's have found, the sleeves come out a little short. I wish i'd measured up beforehand because i had to scrap my first set of sleeves and cut a longer set.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
The lining of the coat needs to be sewn up the same size as you did with the fashion fabric, therefore i had to make the same alterations to the lining as i did with the side seams and sleeves.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Before attaching the wool and the lining together i spent some time pressing all the seams as flat as i could.<br />

First cut out a square of fabric, makes sure the sides are perfectly equal. Then, fold in half diagonally and cut it into two triangles.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
On the under side of your fabric draw straight lines in preparation to cut your binding out. I cut my lines about 4 cm apart so my binding will end up approx just over a cm in width when folded for use.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now for the slightly tricky bit. You want to fold your fabric up to make a tube, however because you are cutting the binding in a continuous strip you need to stagger the top row.</div>

For about a second I thought about grabbing some cheapo ones from Primarni then gave myself a slap. I took the basic shape of the trousers from Simplicity K1620 and then freestyled the waistband and pockets.<br />
<br />
The linen was from Oh Sew Crafty. Love the bright, fresh colour of this fabric. I'm planning on making another pair in a more muted shade. They're so comfy to wear around the house, just like PJs!<br />

I overlocked the top edge to some 5cm waistband elastic then turned up the hem. Easy peasy :D<br />

First i cut up loads of strips and cut the ends at 45 degree angles...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi45FthUrLqhkA_uHwDea8Rsr_QY9hhyphenhyphenuzIze9rdZ-HSR55yY0Ew6qP-p-vlrL9jpyEcfX7uUCBHtFrwT30d2IjPJxCEoONwRKe6BHsC39YG9yUhCBMVVIJtRegGeExFn1z5L-bL_Gr31CB/s1600/WP_20150426_001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi45FthUrLqhkA_uHwDea8Rsr_QY9hhyphenhyphenuzIze9rdZ-HSR55yY0Ew6qP-p-vlrL9jpyEcfX7uUCBHtFrwT30d2IjPJxCEoONwRKe6BHsC39YG9yUhCBMVVIJtRegGeExFn1z5L-bL_Gr31CB/s1600/WP_20150426_001.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Then i assembled them together in rows using my overlocker<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-kLBQfBme5qwk-unu-fdLeZWHorNlp2xuMD4bLQ_LQBKDmPO8kIgxEMOHr6Zi8b8cdzU6BM_kv2wLpw7-G8XP41p-IDx6F5amHA-wTlU7EYK8t-9E2Ov4IVOK6yMUMg2aGw9uWNFouiub/s1600/WP_20150426_004.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-kLBQfBme5qwk-unu-fdLeZWHorNlp2xuMD4bLQ_LQBKDmPO8kIgxEMOHr6Zi8b8cdzU6BM_kv2wLpw7-G8XP41p-IDx6F5amHA-wTlU7EYK8t-9E2Ov4IVOK6yMUMg2aGw9uWNFouiub/s1600/WP_20150426_004.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I secured the ends together and made a circle in the same manner for the base</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I attached the base and then made a plain pink lining to fit inside</div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOcXgkTvKb9mImDYf4VVg7ayispjEli3v9kip-9dZE44785zlGOt7B0s4qObnCkQePEwSa0D7ZAoFxJxpGuu6Z_GiSj7h0ry0vrVfo9CmO9VFbvBpyNAMP3uS5754SFo_AHkrRMj2Pq7Q-/s1600/WP_20150426_013.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOcXgkTvKb9mImDYf4VVg7ayispjEli3v9kip-9dZE44785zlGOt7B0s4qObnCkQePEwSa0D7ZAoFxJxpGuu6Z_GiSj7h0ry0vrVfo9CmO9VFbvBpyNAMP3uS5754SFo_AHkrRMj2Pq7Q-/s1600/WP_20150426_013.jpg" height="320" width="180" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
I made a couple of handles and sewed the top edge up in go, encasing the handles between the bag and lining fabric.<br />
<br />

I didn't buy last years book because i recall not be very impressed by it, however this year it comes with 30 free patterns so i couldn't say no really...<br />

There's a few projects that i'd like to make from the book. Initially i really wanted to make the wraparound dress however everyone has gone a little crazy over this and i can' decide on what fabric to use that won't make me look like i belong in a kitchen, in the 50's....</div>

I could see my the shape of the skirt that it would have some pretty mean swirling powers...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGGy5H5LTrLNx96Mp9BwXbHmlmYNqZEqGqu3JwMPphljmXfoqf11c5WZyTYsU6k3B4Sbyc1rDhDsGuh_n5YypM5V3un6MPgVDOPT8hfFRJFhte95VckI5jrIQtzyolbmg86vUtai_An7d1/s1600/WP_20150421_005.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGGy5H5LTrLNx96Mp9BwXbHmlmYNqZEqGqu3JwMPphljmXfoqf11c5WZyTYsU6k3B4Sbyc1rDhDsGuh_n5YypM5V3un6MPgVDOPT8hfFRJFhte95VckI5jrIQtzyolbmg86vUtai_An7d1/s1600/WP_20150421_005.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I picked out some light weight viscose fabric from Barry's in Birmingham and mainly used my overlocker to put it all together. It was very simple to make so i pretty much discarded Burda's instructions.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLNlx9zlYwk3ROPAfJnjVqUgx53s-qJLwf-rGOR-LoEhzdEcFcvQUCfUohvifT37uQoTK6n6h5dGhvcA3CzgediKeH0zAUprHZPO2rxZT8ydSJQ5pmQfGdB4vG400-jDFdT9vCWqp0hwM6/s1600/WP_20150408_001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLNlx9zlYwk3ROPAfJnjVqUgx53s-qJLwf-rGOR-LoEhzdEcFcvQUCfUohvifT37uQoTK6n6h5dGhvcA3CzgediKeH0zAUprHZPO2rxZT8ydSJQ5pmQfGdB4vG400-jDFdT9vCWqp0hwM6/s1600/WP_20150408_001.jpg" width="201" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It's a very feminine and floaty dress. It's going to be great on a hot day with big sunglasses. There will be at least one more of these making it's way into my wardrobe soon...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>

Once i cut the pattern pieces out i overlocked all the edges before constructing the dress. There's a concealed zip in the right hand side, i managed to match the stripes up quite well. I'm pretty happy with the finish :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I found the pattern in the March edition of Burda:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5IzMRmU3X-IYbeH467dQ5okYSkOBeQxvpJBfRQPXPULsLjt_0o6sJTClpwq0-C17082dcvMhZqDt8_SlQALIBLVXmqkuZ6bZ9nekeKxG9h4WWWByXfoBcO7HOlzy8t2o8_OhHae91lxGL/s1600/WP_20150421_002.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5IzMRmU3X-IYbeH467dQ5okYSkOBeQxvpJBfRQPXPULsLjt_0o6sJTClpwq0-C17082dcvMhZqDt8_SlQALIBLVXmqkuZ6bZ9nekeKxG9h4WWWByXfoBcO7HOlzy8t2o8_OhHae91lxGL/s1600/WP_20150421_002.jpg" height="400" width="225" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiU92g-v93E_tlTycjbcm8UtXlq2_RmMccZI0qDuV2Eopyjcj50Hs1GqxFfQHaqUGE76SDkc8I7Ko4YhkGu2CKbXyH6F4uZKctgSkky9lfkDF8dmpwHOE2X2LuIH87LVvb9BsrPs1WPn01a/s1600/WP_20150421_006.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiU92g-v93E_tlTycjbcm8UtXlq2_RmMccZI0qDuV2Eopyjcj50Hs1GqxFfQHaqUGE76SDkc8I7Ko4YhkGu2CKbXyH6F4uZKctgSkky9lfkDF8dmpwHOE2X2LuIH87LVvb9BsrPs1WPn01a/s1600/WP_20150421_006.jpg" height="400" width="225" /></a></div>
<br />
It was the featured pattern of that edition so i was lucky to have lovely coloured instructions and ictures, however i didn't need them because it was mega simple. My only gripe was the chest panel was an inch or two too small which is a bit annoying. Can't really be fixed now its all overlocked. I have some left over material though and i'm gonna make the jumper version at some point.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5tuSqZ9rjZyWoSVyR6U3t6IUAiSMRV-r_YZHeUMesEs7Topct8qqHN8df34dZ1AzW6kCIm0VYNSi9HTcjBl669zNEAsfoKDATAu7vJtQ0SXLWmjS5NbN14TN-0KaQaJeuyXjF6RlOm1CC/s1600/overlocker.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5tuSqZ9rjZyWoSVyR6U3t6IUAiSMRV-r_YZHeUMesEs7Topct8qqHN8df34dZ1AzW6kCIm0VYNSi9HTcjBl669zNEAsfoKDATAu7vJtQ0SXLWmjS5NbN14TN-0KaQaJeuyXjF6RlOm1CC/s1600/overlocker.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It didn't take me long to figure out how to thread it but that was just the beginning. I learnt quickly that cheapo threads were not gonna cut it as they snapped almost instantly. Moon thread for me from now on :D</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I mastered a three thread overlocking stitch and promptly overlocked everything i'd ever made, that was fun! Then i had a go with four threads, oooh lovely! Some fabrics it looked great on and others it was quite working out...hmmm time to twiddle those tensions disks.... it either got worse or made no difference. I started to get a little frustrated so i signed myself up for a day course in basic overlocking. Then spent the next two months in a constant state of excitement counting down the days :D Within the first half an hour i had my eureka moment.... move the cutting plates!!! If there's too much fabric gathering between your looper threads cut it shorter and vice versa! Immediately i had the skills to perfect the quality of the finished products. Then it was on to the other awesome and fun things overlockers can do! Gathering is sooo cool and i can't wait to make something with a lettuce edge...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I went home and practice some skills by overlocking a little bag out of some scraps and cutting the hem off a chiffon dress and doing a rolled hem instead :D</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

It was made from stretch jersey which was so much easier to work with than i anticipated. It cut so nicely and didn't fray which was a blessing as i'd yet to unwrapped my over locker which was my fave prezzy this year!<br />
<br />
It took just a couple of hours to sew it all up and it fit like a glove :)<br />

I used this Butterick pattern but modified option C by making it shorter and losing the collar. Would love a couple more of these, very easy to make and really comfy to wear!</div>

Therefore i gotta try to make trousers again.... i made some from viscose in the summer that i love. Took me a while to get the sizing right so this time i made a toile first.<br />
<br />
I got some gorgeous navy blue polka dot cotton canvas and also some candy pink to line them (love a lining!). It has also been my first attempt at inserting a fly. It was much easier than i thought it would be and looks so professional, i surprised myself! :D<br />

Stuck for ideas of what to buy people this xmas and decided i should incorporate my hobby and make some gifts! Last year i made my mom a xmas table runner and this year i decided to make my boyfriend's mom an xmas apron. I was inspired by some Grinch fabric, as her grandsons are fans,then scoured ebay for a couple more complementary designs. Came across the penguins and the reindeers and started cutting lots of squares! I used gingham for the frill and backing. It came out quite chunky and felt good quality. My boyfriends mom wore it xmas day so i hope that meant she liked it!!<br />
